Gnomon Workshop - Introduction to NUKE Compositing DVD 1 & 2

In this DVD, Rob covers all the major aspects of NUKE and reveals many areas where the casual user would not have known to go at first glance. Rob also provides sensible approaches for how to lay a good foundation for proper compositing in your own projects.

NUKE, short for "New Compositor", began as the in-house compositing and effects application at Digital Domain, where it won an Academy Award® for Technical Achievement. NUKE is built primarily for visual effects film work at a variety of element resolutions and color spaces, all within a floating point 2D and 3D environment. This lecture covers the essentials of working with film-based and CGI elements in a professional, extensible and fast compositing pipeline. Utilizing many techniques for speed and efficiency, NUKE is able to provide rich output results and ultimate customization for the user. Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection CS3

Adobe Creative Suite is a collection of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications made by Adobe Systems. The latest version, Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3), was announced on March 27, 2007; it introduced Universal binaries for all major programs for the Apple Macintosh.

Adobe sells CS3 applications in six different combinations called “editions.” Some editions began shipping on April 16, 2007, and Production Premium and Master Collection editions began shipping on July 2, 2007.

CS3 includes several programs, including Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks that were developed by Macromedia, a former rival acquired by Adobe in 2005.

An extra DVD is supplied with Arabic, Hebrew and North African versions of Adobe CS3 in Central European and Middle Eastern versions for language support. For example, these versions handle bi-directional text flow for easy usage in accordance to keyboard language, advanced text settings, right-to-left layout, import and export options for Middle Eastern characters, and spell checker for Middle Eastern languages. These versions are only available from WinSoft[3], Adobe’s internationalization and localization partner.

The successor to Adobe CS3, Creative Suite 4, is currently in development.

In this DVD, David Levy demonstrates the Adobe PhotoshopŒ techniques that he uses to create environ- ments for the entertainment industry. He specifically reveals the custom brush creation techniques that have been perfected by a small group of passionate artists in Montreal. From two basic brushes, David shows you how to develop your own library of custom brushes that will allow you to gain speed and efficiency during your speedpainting process. With over eleven years experience in the game industry in more than four countries, David has built a strong reputation as a Lead Artist, and he has been invited to speak at various events and workshops including the Game Developers Conference. David currently works as a Senior Concept Artist and has participated in the development of Turok, The Red Star, Prince of Persia the Two Thrones, and Assassin's Creed. With his friend Barontieri, he recently created Steambot Studios, a collective of artists dedicated to create, inspire and push the boundaries of concept art.

Professor Xue jun Shan is based in Shanghai, China and creates concept art and digital matte paintings for films and games. We met him at a conference in Shanghai and were immediately impressed with his talent, enlisting him to take part in our Background Fundamentals course for an episode. Based upon the positive response from fxphd postgrads, we've brought him on for an entire term.

Starting out covering a history of the matte painting art, the course quickly dives into analyzing shots where matte paintings are needed, concept design (including composition, lighting and color), software choices, and building several matte paintings. The Matte Painting course is one of the courses which will be collaboratively working on the Zombie project, creating the designs for the compound and distant ruined city.

Gnomon Zbrush production Pipeline

This DVD focuses on the relationship between Maya (or any 3D package), and the wonderful sculpting, texturing and displacement creation tool that is ZBrush. Meats discusses the basics of ZBrush, focusing on working efficiently, moving your work between applications and rendering the results within your favorite renderer. Various methods of texture map creation and application are covered, including view port painting and using the many 2.5D painting tools inside the Projection Master for real time, detailed texture application. Materials, color, geometry sculpting and displacements are explained, along with the methods of using ZBrush as an animated blend shape (morph target) creator.

Sebastien Larroude, a.k.a. Rainart, graduated from the Superior School of Photography and Multimedia (E.T.P.A) in France, where he studied audio-visual, fine art and digital techniques. With over ten years of experience in the industry, Sebastien has built a strong reputation as a lighting artist, concept artist and matte painter. He has been invited to speak at various events and workshops including ADAPT. Sebastien currently works as a senior concept artist on the game DeusEX III at Eidos Montreal and has participated in the development of video games such as Myst IV: Revelation, Assassin’s Creed, WET and Indiana Jones as well as many commercial projects with various advertising agencies in France and the United States. Along with his friends David Levy (Vyle), Thierry Doizon (Barontieri), Nicolas Ferrand (Viag) and Joel Dos Reis Viegas (Feerik), he recently started STEAMBOT Studios, a collective of creative artists whose goal is to inspire and push the boundaries of concept art, matte painting and digital art.
